Leading housebuilder Taylor Wimpey West Midlands will contribute towards the investment of more than £220,000 in local community facilities and infrastructure as part of a brand new homes development coming soon to Kidderminster.

The development of 250 high-quality properties has been granted planning permission by Wyre Forest District Council, with construction work due to begin on the Taylor Wimpey phase in Spring with the first homes already available to reserve.

Taylor Wimpey are contributing towards the £224,675 that is being pledged for the development, including £100,000 towards local highways improvements, £89,675 towards the provision of public open space and £35,000 towards public art.

As well as new homes, the overall site is also expected to include retail units, commercial buildings, a care home, leisure facilities and a hotel. A railway ‘halt’ is also planned to be installed to the existing Severn Valley Railway while the development’s main spine road is ultimately expected to provide a link connecting the A451 Stourport Road to the A422 Worcester Road through the Hoobrook Industrial Estate.

In addition, 12% of the new homes to be constructed at the development will be designated as affordable housing while public open space and children’s play facilities will be provided on site for residents and the wider community.

On top of these contributions, the development will bring additional investment to the local community through the New Homes Bonus initiative. Under this scheme, the Government match-funds the council tax raised from the building of each of the development’s 250 new homes, with the money provided directly to the local authority.

Elaine Taylor, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey, says: “Every single new home we build at Taylor Wimpey is part of a community, and we are committed to ensuring this exciting new development in Kidderminster offers much more than just high-quality properties for local people.

“We are delighted to confirm our contribution towards the investment of £224,675, plus a host of other community benefits and contributions. This will help to improve public facilities and infrastructure, ensuring that this sustainable new homes development will both complement and enhance the local area.”

Located on the former British Sugar site off Stourport Road, Stour Valley lies within easy reach of Kidderminster’s town centre, where bustling streets, retail centres and the regenerated Weavers Wharf combine to offer a high-quality shopping experience with major high-street shops, independent stores, cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants.

Highly regarded schools for children of all ages are within easy reach of the development, including the new Academies King Charles I School and Baxter College.

Countryside trails for walking, cycling and horse riding are only 10 miles away from the development in the ancient oak coppices of the Wyre Forest, and Shropshire’s rolling countryside and the Cotswolds can also be easily reached by car.

Commuters will appreciate that Stour Valley is located only 10 miles by road from the M42 and M5, 13 miles from Worcester and around 20 miles from both Birmingham and Wolverhampton, while direct train services run regularly from Kidderminster railway station to destinations across the West Midlands and further afield.
