Sykes Cottages positions itself as pet-friendly holiday provider

The UK is home to 8.5 million dog owners but these furry friends don’t always get the attention they deserve when it comes to choosing a holiday destination.

Pet-friendly accommodation provider Sykes Cottages is on a mission to ensure man’s best friend gets some time away from it too, with the launch of its new Take the Lead dog walking guide.

The guide covers six of the best dog walks in the UK, taking in the picturesque South West Coast Path, the tranquil Norfolk coastline and the beautiful Lake District countryside.

The walks range from two miles to 6.5 miles, so there is something for every dog and owner, whether they’re looking for a short afternoon stroll or a longer hike. Users are given step-by-step directions and maps for each route, which can be downloaded as a PDF for printing.

All the routes are in regions covered by Sykes Cottages’ range of holiday accommodation, so are easily accessible to dog owners.

Tom Lowes, of Sykes Cottages, said: “We want to make it easy for pet owners to find a holiday destination and accommodation that suits not only their needs but also those of their pets. After all, dogs are part of the family and people wouldn’t think about leaving them at home when they go on holiday.

“Our website makes it easy to search for cottages that allow dogs to stay, and we even have a limited number of properties which allow guests to take three or more pets.

“With the UK housing around 8.5 million dog owners – roughly 25% of households – the travel industry should be prepared to cater for guests who travel with pets. We have over 2,000 dog-friendly holiday cottages on our books and we hope this number continues to grow.”
