Flooring trends for 2014
With 2013 drawing to a close, David Bigland, the MD of luxury vinyl flooring manufacturer Moduleo UK predicts the key flooring trends for 2014.
Add a little sparkle
Consumers are increasingly looking for flooring with the ‘wow factor’ and we expect that in 2014, more people will be choosing stone flooring with a little sparkle. Stone with metallic hues can create an extremely luxurious look, and is bang on trend for 2014.
Cool coloured stone
Stone is already a popular flooring option, but we expect that cool coloured stones in particular will be in high demand throughout 2014. Smooth and finely detailed stone tiles with delicate marbling can be particularly evocative of nature and work well in both contemporary and traditional environments.
Rustic Wood
While traditional hard-wood finishes will no doubt continue to be popular in 2014, there is a growing trend for particularly rustic finishes. As interior design trends continue to bring the outside in, wooden floors that appear gnarly and worn will be in high demand. Rustic wood is an extremely versatile finish, but it can also create an extremely natural finish.
Bigger is better
Our selection of larger planks proved extremely popular throughout 2013, and we expect that this trend will continue long into the New Year. Consumers are choosing these larger planks and tiles in order to showcase the space in their homes.
Black is back
The monochrome trend has made a real impact on interior design and as such we expect that statement black slate flooring will be in particularly high demand next year. Creating a chic, cosmopolitan feel, a striking slate floor can provide a bold base for both a residential or commercial environment.
