North Lanarkshire Council turns to Tracker to improve its fleet

North Lanarkshire Council is stepping up a gear in its bid to improve the efficiency, and reduce the emissions, of its vehicle fleet.

The local authority has equipped all 209 vehicles – including small LCVs, mini-buses and 32-tonne refuse collection trucks - from its community services department with the TRACKER Reporter Vehicle Asset Management (VAM) system.

While the investment’s main objectives are to improve efficiency and reduce carbon monoxide emissions, the new system also enables the authority’s fleet management team to maintain direct contact with all vehicles, improve route planning, increase personal security for drivers and improve health and safety practices.

Donald Morrice, Transport Services Manager for North Lanarkshire Council, said: “We recognised the need to improve our services and the overall management of our fleet, but we needed the perfect tool for the job. TRACKER Reporter is that tool.

“The system has been active for several weeks and we’re already seeing major advantages, especially in identifying areas where vehicles are left idling and wasting council money. Our biggest challenge now is to re-educate our drivers.”

He added: “While this is a pilot project, we are already contemplating rolling the TRACKER Reporter system out to other areas of the council including the social services division.”
