The event, which was organised by Adactus Housing Association and supported by Lovell Homes, also celebrated the opening of ‘The Green’, a new open park area refurbished by housebuilder Lovell alongside the Rochdale Canal which will serve the local community.

Local residents enjoyed taking part in a variety of fun activities such as pamper sessions, a raffle, tombola and a host of games, at the Victoria Mill Community Centre on Lower Vickers Street.

Suzanne Bullock, regional manager for Adactus said: “The summer festival is an annual event for the people of Miles Platting but this year it was even bigger and better because we were marking the opening of the park as well.

“Every year the residents come out in force for the festival and events such as this help us to build a stronger community in Miles Platting. Despite the bad weather early in the day the sun came out in the afternoon and a good time was had by all.”

The Green is central to a large scale regeneration project by Lovell, bringing over 1,000 homes to Miles Platting, creating a vibrant new neighbourhood called Platting Village. The latest phase of homes, named Faraday Green is now on sale.

Clare Noakes, regional sales manager for Lovell in the North West, said: “The Green is looking great now and it was lovely to see so many people turn out on the day. All the shrubs and flowers have been chosen to complement the local area and habitat and the park as a whole will serve the community for many years to come.”

As well as The Green, Platting Village will feature a number of open spaces throughout. Situated within an established residential area, residents will be within easy reach of a host of local amenities including the £7.4m Park View School, Miles Platting and Ancoats Sure Start Children’s Centre, Victoria Mill and the sports facilities at Eastlands.

The 85 homes for sale at Faraday Green, with prices currently starting from £116,500 are being built to Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. This means they will feature energy efficient appliances and heating systems, low energy lighting, Smart Meters, and fixtures and fittings that reduce water consumption. This all adds up to a home that is more economical and therefore cheaper to run.
