This winter's must have used furniture

8th October 2014 Print

French, Welsh, Kitchen, Farmhouse, Jacobean, Country, Pine, Oak.... The winter of 2013-14 saw the highest level of orders for painted shabby chic dressers ever. This winter, The Contrast Dresser is leading the latest in used furniture 'must have's'.

Fully painted, distressed and waxed was the flavour of dresser during one of our most extreme winters yet. November 2013 saw sales of shabby chic painted dressers rocket to an all time high, sustaining their popularity through to the end of January 2014. As spring approached, their popularity only waned a little, as the vogue began to favour the traditional pine or oak dresser. This continued throughout the summer, with Jacobean or farmhouse style dressers leading the way.

But now autumn has hit us suddenly, the trend has yet again shifted. This time revealing a cross between none-painted and painted dressers: The Contrast Dresser. Following the rise in popularity in the mixing and matching of dining or kitchen chairs, the mode in dressers has become part original wood and part paint.

These dressers are still classed in the 'shabby chic' category, but are not distressed, and sometimes not waxed, to give a fresh, crisp multi tonal countenance. Because these dressers, like their thoroughly shabby chic counterparts, take a long time to come to fruition from sourcing through to the end result, they cannot be mass produced and each have their own individual foibles and characteristics. A 'must have' worth waiting for!

Vintage furniture connoisseurs, Chateau Rustique, currently have a Contrast Dresser in progress. For an image of this pine contrast dresser once it is finished, visit chateaurustique.co.uk.
