Piste off with the high prices of ski accommodation?  Outdoor accommodation specialist Pitchup.com is offering a budget alternative this winter. Whilst self catering once offered a better value option, increasingly it is becoming prohibitively expensive.

The outdoor accommodation specialist has a number of lodges, pods, wigwams and touring choices close to resorts throughout Europe with accommodation options starting at less than £20 per night.

Commenting Dan Yates, founder of Pitchup.com, says “It’s not always front of mind to consider  non chalet-style properties, but they’re well worth considering if you are looking for an exceptional value ski break.”

So get those skis and snowboards out and book a bargain break from Pitchup.com:

Scottish skiing!

There has already been some snowfall on the highest Scottish peaks so is this winter set to be a bumper one for skiing at home?  Loch Tay Highland Lodges is just 40 miles south of Scotland’s largest ski area at Glenshee.  Set within 2,000 acres of mountains and forest, this ski centre comprises an impressive 36 runs across 40km of pistes.  Loch Tay Highland Lodges provides the ideal base for winter sports enthusiasts as there are plenty of other outdoor activities on offer including hiking, cycling and fishing.  The site also features its own restaurant with loch views. Winter accommodation ranges from wigwams and domes to a high-tech woodland cabin, with prices starting from as little as £40 per night for a basic wigwam.  The cosy woodland cabins come with views of the loch and surrounding mountains, fully-equipped kitchen, bathroom, flatscreen TVs, iPod dock and a woodburning stove.  These cost from £80 per night and can sleep up to six people. Anyone staying between now and 23rd December will receive a 15% discount.

Plough through the Sierra Nevada

If a combination of sun and snow makes for an ideal holiday then a break in Beas de Granada is just the ticket!  This peaceful village is located on the verge of a national park and offers spectacular views towards the Sierra Nevada mountain ranges.  It’s approximately 1.5 hours from the main ski areas providing a warm escape after a day on the slopes - average daily temperatures even in winter rarely drop below 15. Camping Alto de Viñuelas is a pretty campsite which features its own bar, restaurant and shop meaning visitors will have ample facilities to return to after a hard day of winter sports. Visitors will need to bring their own motorhome or caravan but with pitches costing from just £17.34 per night it’s an absolute bargain!  Leaving more to spend on lift passes and equipment. The Sierra Nevada ski resort is Europe’s most southerly resort offering 79 pistes with the majority most suited to beginner or intermediate skiers and boarders.

City & ski combo!

Camping El Berguedà is situated between the culture, fashion and fun of Barcelona and the fantastic ski resorts of the Spanish Pyrenees. Port Del Comte is one of the nearest main ski resorts offering access to 31 pistes with all levels of ability catered for.  Fresh snow is forecast soon meaning the resort could be up and running before December!  Accommodation at Camping El Berguedà is offered as either touring pitches or in more luxurious log cabins.  The cabins can sleep up to four and feature kitchens, living and dining areas, bathroom and two bedrooms.  A one-night stay costs just £69.35.  There are a number of activities and attractions within easy reach and for a day away from the slopes, the city of Barcelona is just a 90-minute drive away.
