Culina Logistics opts for Euro 5 for first Volvo’s in the fleet

Culina Logistics does not operate any Euro 4 trucks and the 11 Volvo’s on order are the first Euro 5 vehicles to join its 122 strong fleet.
All the new FH-440’s use Volvo’s SCR technology to achieve Euro 5 compliance. The trucks are double-shifted and cover around 8,000 Kms per month. Culina are installing telemonitored bulk tanks for AdBlue storage.
According to Culina’s Transport Administration Supervisor Tony Pottinger, the company moved straight to Euro 5 on environmental grounds as part of a long-term, company-wide programme which involves scrutinising the carbon footprint of the total operation.
Says Tony.”We conducted a detailed review of SCR versus EGR and trialled both systems. We believe that SCR is the better system and will also be the more popular when it comes to calculating residual values.”
The high-tech logistics company, which operates from three strategic locations in the UK, says that the new Volvo’s will be used as primary distribution vehicles on trunking duties between customer’s Regional Distribution Centres.
Specification of the FH’s includes Globetrotter XL cabs complete with climate control, I-Shift automated transmission and the latest Volvo Engine Brake VEB+. All the trucks are on three-year term contract hire.
