Cool headed buyers are warming to the idea of moving to a brand new home in Worcestershire where they could see their energy bills reduced by more than half.

New Redrow homes are full of energy efficient qualities and, as temperatures drop outside, the developer is seeing an increase in enquiries from buyers who want to know more about the potential fuel bill savings.

The award-winning housebuilder is currently selling homes at several locations in Worcestershire including The Oaks and Saxon Fields in Bromsgrove; Laburnum Gardens in Evesham; Abbey Meadows in Pershore and Hamlet Place in Stourport.

Pauline Turnbull, sales director for Redrow Homes (Midlands), says: “New build homes are much more efficient in their use of energy than their older second-hand counterparts. We’ve calculated that those who opt for a brand new four-bedroom Redrow home could save more than £1,300 a year on their energy bills compared to an upgraded Victorian equivalent. So instead of feeling blue about the cost of heating their home, those who move from old to new could be turning their friends green with envy.

“The lower running costs soon mount up; buyers could use the money saved for an extra family holiday, fuel for the family car, or, be put towards paying off the mortgage early. Add to this potential savings brought about by changes to the way stamp duty is paid, as announced in the chancellor’s Autumn Statement, and it’s a win-win situation for people buying a new home right now.”

Redrow is continually working to improve the energy efficiency of its new homes by increasing the airtightness to reduce the amount of heat lost and fitting modern efficient heating systems.

Here’s how the potential fuel bill savings add up:

House type Energy cost per year Energy cost per month
Victorian 4 bed semi (with modern day improvements) £2,379* £198.25*
Redrow Richmond 4 bed detached £1,047** £87,25**
Savings £1,332 per annum £111 per month

Between them, The Oaks, Saxon Fields, Laburnum Gardens, Abbey Meadows and Hamlet Place offer a good choice of properties with two to five bedrooms with current prices ranging from £189,995 to £624,995.

The stamp duty changes just announced will mean a saving of £4,400 on a four-bedroom home priced at £279,995 compared to the old regime.
