John Owen aggregates take first Volvo’s and they’re both Euro 5

Mr. Leon Gull, Managing Director for the company said “I was impressed with the build, design quality and durability of the Volvo. I have been watching other operations running them over the years and decided to give them a try. I like to be as advanced as I can and Euro 5 engines fitted in with this well. They also project the right image for my business. The best feature is the I-Shift automated transmission which reduces wear and tear on both the truck and the driver. It gets the best out of the engine in terms of fuel economy by running in the green band ‘sweet spot’ all the time”.
Purchased from the Volvo Main Dealer, Crossroads Truck and Bus, in nearby Rotherham, the Euro 5 FM-400 ‘B’ ride 32 tonne 8x4 tippers feature weight saving aluminium wheels and offer a payload of up to 20.75 tonnes. The specification also features an advanced PM on-board weigher, which combines a reversing camera and an individual axle weigher. Complete with Harsh underfloor tipping gear, an Easy-Sheet for added safety and an aluminium bulk body, the trucks are specified for optimum payload.
Leon added “I’ve been running trucks for 15 years. The best overall feature of the Volvo’s is their inherent reliability and cost effectiveness in operation. They’re well-built trucks which deliver good service.”
The Day cab will operate locally and transport sand, gravel, aggregates and recycled materials, whereas the Sleeper-cabbed FM will travel nationwide and is expected to cover up to 70,000 miles per year. Both trucks feature 3-year Repair and Maintenance contracts provided by Crossroads for added peace of mind. Part of a core fleet of 50 tippers, the 2 new additional Volvo’s are expected to be kept on the fleet for 4 years.
