First Volvo’s into PGR Construction Group

The specification of the two 400hp 8x4 FM’s includes a Day cab, alloy wheels and a reversing camera with the lightweight steel bodywork being supplied by Thompson. With a payload of 20 tonnes, the FM’s are used to transport hardcore and also building materials for recycling. Although they work principally on local authority road contracts, the trucks are operating with specialist division PGR Recycling, which involves the crushing and recycling of both hardcore and soil.
Both trucks were supplied with a Volvo 5-year full Repair and Maintenance contract through Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia’s Kettering depot.
PGR Construction Group’s Civil Engineering Director Jim Pridmore is pleased with the new FM’s, saying,”The specification is higher than we normally go for. We know another operator who has Volvo tippers and they don’t have any trouble with them. The drivers like the Volvo’s and the deal was right in terms of timing, price and spec.”
Jim added, “We now either sell or re-use all the material on our own jobs with 90% going to our own purpose-built recycling operations centre. We’re able to recycle concrete, lime, stone, crushed tarmac and screened top soil and the Volvo’s are the ideal tools for this job.”
Single shifted and working 6 days per week, the FM’s will work primarily in the Northamptonshire region, but also range from Milton Keynes to Cambridge and from Peterborough up to Leicester.
