Overnight service - seals the deal for Gazeway’s latest Volvo FM

Hire Manager Roy Watson reports that Volvo’s Dealer service out of Kettering is a boon to the company. “We’ve used them for 20 years and their reliability is very good in terms of their service and getting the trucks back to us on time. They collect the trucks, service them overnight and return by 4 a.m. the following morning.”
The latest Volvo to join the six-strong fleet of Gazeway Limited, part of the construction services organisation HBG Group, is an FM 440 6x2 rigid. Roy Watson says. “Volvo is the most satisfactory in terms of reliability and is Number one in the market for us. Even the older Volvo’s are popular with our drivers.”
According to Roy, Volvo’s I-Shift automated transmission is an equally popular addition to the specification. “The drivers like it and we get better fuel consumption than a manual transmission.”
The FM is fitted with a Palfinger PK2002, 20 tonne per metre crane. Gazeway is the plant hire arm of HBG Group and the FM is used to move scaffolding and steel-work for the fabrications division. When coupled to a trailer, the truck can also transport up to two Portakabins.
With a fleet of six trucks - all of which are Volvo - the latest FM rigid to join the fleet is equipped with a sleeper cab and will be operated by the company for 5 years in which time it is expected to cover around 500,000 kms.
The FM will soon to be joined by another new Volvo – a Euro 5, FH-440, 4x2 tractor unit with a Globetrotter cab in ‘Prestige’ trim.
