New cab interior for improved comfort and function

New cab interior for improved comfort and function Volvo Trucks’ new cab interior for the FH (and FM) trucks is designed to create a work environment with optimum function, space and comfort, based on the results of several studies among drivers and hauliers.

“We’ve listened to drivers and taken note of their requests. The new interior is designed to offer more of everything, both while driving and during rest breaks,” says Joakim Nilsson, Product Manager for the Volvo FH and Volvo FM.

Space and comfort for work and rest
Increased standing height and space for movement inside the cab are frequent requests from truck drivers. To increase the feeling of space, and make it easier to move around while standing up, the front storage compartments above the windscreen have been completely redesigned on the Globetrotter cabs. In addition, the gear controls for the I-Shift and Powertronic transmissions have been moved out a little from the driver’s seat to give added space.

“Another important request from drivers is comfortable resting facilities,” says Joakim Nilsson. “Among other things, we’ve designed a new bed with an adjustable backrest.”

The storage space under the bed is now larger and more accessible – another important factor for truck drivers. The instrument panel has also been re-shaped to allow more storing space and other new features include a swivelling passenger seat and the option of installing a flat-screen TV.

Advanced lighting system
“Our newly developed lighting system is unique in the industry,” says Joakim Nilsson. “We now feature advanced lighting controls that includes a dimmer and it is possible to deliver the light, and adjust its brightness, exactly according to need. This provides effective lighting for working or reading, but offers a muted, relaxing background illumination when the driver takes a break.”

Volvo FH16 – an exclusive and unique truck
Most of the changes introduced to the Volvo FH will also be found on the Volvo FH16. However, being an exclusive model, the FH16 also has many unique new details.

“The FH16 is our flagship product and this should be both seen and felt,” says Joakim Nilsson. “It’s designed for customers who want more of just about everything – and now we’re giving them that little bit extra.”

Among other things, the feeling of exclusivity is heightened through unique colour schemes and materials as well as the new FH16 emblem, clearly visible in several places, including the instrument cluster and the door panels.

“With these new features, we can more than satisfy customers’ requirements,” says Joakim Nilsson. “Besides space, comfort and smart storage solutions, we give them a bright, attractive environment. We believe that this will make their work easier - and more enjoyable.”
