Big club launched for little truckers

First and foremost we want children to have fun and learn about the diverse and interesting roles that the industry offers.
On a more serious note, the UK Logistics sector is suffering from an estimated shortage of over 40,000 LGV and Van drivers nationally. This is likely to be the result of the ageing driver workforce, with 22% of the work force aged between 45 – 54 years old and a further 19% over the age of 55 years old. The recruitment of younger people is also an issue, with only 11% of the workforce under 25. Women are also under-represented with only 27% employed within the logistics industry.
These statistics could be the cause of the poor and stereotypical image projected by the industry which many may relate with long working hours, a dirty and male orientated environment and poor career prospects.
Little Truckers Club aim is not to fix these problems but to be the first step to educate children in the field of logistics, through an understanding of the transport industry in an enjoyable, fun and friendly way.
The industry will now need to work hard to present a positive image and highlight the career opportunities it offers to all, especially the younger generation. Thomas Hardie Commercials is the main distributor for Volvo truck, bus & coach in the North West of England & North Wales and have developed an idea to help the industry to change its poor image and to attract a younger audience.
Little Truckers Club is the 1st membership club and website of its type to be launched to help children learn about the logistics industry. Every member who signs up will receive their very own personalised membership pack and access to the member’s only section of the clubs website. The website is very colourful and offers many fun activities, educational games, downloads, image gallery and character profiles to help the children learn through play.
Little Truckers Club is also producing a series of children’s illustrated books to help enhance the learning experience of the reader. Each new book produced will tell the tale of each character and the job they do within the industry.
Little Truckers Club will also be visiting schools, equipped with an interactive mobile classroom. The classroom will enable the club to educate children on subjects connected to the industry, from environmental issues to road safety.
To take Little Truckers Club to the next level, an LTC steering group compiled of influential companies and individuals within the transport industry has been set-up to help drive the success of the club. With their support and buy in we can secure the future of the club.
