Fancy a bite with a great white? In an Australian first, Adventure Bay Charters on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula has launched an aqua submarine, perfect for observing sharks in their natural environment without getting wet. The six-seater underwater pod sits at the back of the eco operator's newest boat, MV Shark Warrior, and is surrounded by glass for 360 degree views. Participants also have the option to enjoy drinks and nibble whilst observing the jaw-dropping aquatic wildlife.

Run by fourth-generation fisherman Matt Waller, Adventure Bay Charters offers a bait-free shark experience that brings visitors face-to-face with the legendary great white shark from the confines of a cage, using audio sound vibrations to attract the sharks to the boat. Now with the addition of the sub, up to 12 people can be underwater at once.

The full day tour takes passengers to 'shark bay' at Neptune Island, approximately 70kms south of Port Lincoln, South Australia. On the way, it's possible to see spectacular scenery, inquisitive dolphins and sea birds.

The trip costs from AU$395 (approx. £206) per adult and AU$285 (approx. £150) per child (3-15 years), plus AU$100 (approx. £52) to step into the cage or Aqua Submarine.

This is one of only two places in the world where visitors can dive with great white sharks. South Australia has also recently announced extended licences for shark cage diving operators from three to 10 years to support this significant tourism draw-card, which has grown by 30 per cent during the past three years.

Flights from London to Adelaide from £699 through STA Travel ( Price based on travel between April 14 and May 31, must book by February 28.
