H&H consigns its second 1929 GP Alfa of the year!

Hot on the heels of selling the Irish Grand Prix-winning 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Super Sport for a record £503,000 (Cheltenham, March 1), H&H Classic Auctions has now consigned UV 819 – a 1929 6C 1500 Super Sport Works Team Car.

By definition, 1929 Alfa Team Cars are extremely rare, so this is a considerable coup for H&H, who will be offering this historically significant vehicle at its Kempton Park sale on July 25.

On collection from Italy, UV 819 was adopted as a Works Team Car by the UK concessionaire, F W Stiles. Having featured in the 1929 Brooklands Double Twelve, it was next entered for the inaugural Irish Grand Prix event, where it won the first day’s Saorstat Cup in the hands of former Russian Imperial Guard officer Boris Ivanowski. Though ineligible for the next day’s larger capacity class Eireann Cup, it was nevertheless classified third overall (1st in class) on aggregate for the meeting, finishing ahead of such ‘superior’ machinery as Henry Birkin’s 4.5-litre Blower Bentley and Dudley Benjafield’s privateer Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Super Sport in the process.

Stiles then ran the Alfa for Attilio Marinoni in the 1929 Ards TT before selling it to amateur racer Reginald Outlaw, who entered it for the same trio of events in 1930. Sometime in those early years, the car was fitted with Carlton Competition Four-Seater coachwork. Following Outlaw’s tenure it spent some time in both the USA and New Zealand, and has only had two owners in the whole of the last 55 years.

This splendid Italian Team Car represents a very rare opportunity to purchase one of the true icons of the vintage era and carries an estimate of £380,000-420,000.
