Give your old phone a new home
BEN, the Automotive Industry Charity, has joined forces with logistics and car parts giant Unipart to set up a recycling service for unwanted mobile phones and visitors to the CV Show, which runs from 24 – 26 April, will have the opportunity to participate in this new initiative. For each phone received, Unipart will donate £3 to BEN, helping the Charity to carry out its vital work.
Unipart Group Chief Executive, John Neill, said “BEN is a charity close to our hearts at Unipart because of our automotive industry heritage. This scheme, devised by our graduate trainees, is a genuine win/win for both charity and the environment. Even the oldest phones can yield valuable parts and recyclable materials, whilst others can go more or less straight back into use in the developing world. There are estimated to be 75 million unused old phones in the UK, so search them out and help the planet and this worthwhile cause.”
BEN Chief Executive, Gerard Barclay, said “We are delighted to be part of this scheme and call on all our friends and supporters to get involved. Most people are unaware than it takes around 1,000 years for a mobile phone to decompose, so we believe we are also helping to contribute to a healthier environment.”
Visitors wishing to support this initiative should visit BEN on its Stand No. 3068 to collect a Freepost envelope so that they can post their old mobile phone when they get home.
