Used ‘new’ Transit values continue to rise

18th April 2007 Print
Used ‘new’ Transit values continue to rise Ford’s commercial vehicle range continues to attract premium prices at auction. A recent sale staged at BCA Nottingham sold every van on offer with new Transit prices actually rising from the strong debut the model made last December.

BCA’s Duncan Ward commented, “Demand such as this is really unprecedented, but as many commercial vehicle dealers are short of quality used stock the competition between buyers is intense. As used retailers will tell you, you can’t sell empty spaces!”

He continued “You would expect new models to make strong values when they first enter the used vehicle market which new Transit certainly did. What is more surprising is to see those initial launch values be substantially improved for comparable vehicles three months later.”

Highest price in sale went to a 0606 New Transit 430 17-seat minibus in Metallic Tonic, which sold for £20,000, £900 more than similar spec versions sold at the launch sale over three months ago. SWB, MWB and LWB vans and chassis cabs also saw similar scale increases versus the launch event underlining the demand for the 2007 International Van of the Year in the used commercial arena.

Paul Bolton, Ford of Britain CV Remarketing Manager commented "The values we are currently seeing for new Transit in the used arena are testament to the quality of this vehicle and the confidence the market has in used Ford Commercial Vehicles overall."

Ford also recorded some notable values for LPG vehicles, with 0555 Transit (prior model) 300 2.3 petrol / LPG SWB vans achieving up to £10,100 at 18,000 miles.

Fiesta Vans continued to make strong money, with a 0606 1.4 Tdci van in silver at 2,000 miles selling for £7,050. Connect also performed strongly, with LWB vans making up to 111% CAP Clean and SWB Connect Vans achieving up to a remarkable 127% CAP Clean.

Old model Transit prices remained very strong, with several 0606 Transit 280 125PS Tdci SWB Hallmark vans at around 20,000 miles selling for up to £9,600.

Duncan Ward concluded “Demand in the current used LCV marketplace is exceptional. This said, I cannot recall any van actually increasing in value so substantially as the New Ford Transit has.”
