The ultimate fry-up contains two sausages, two rashers of bacon, fried eggs, mushrooms, toast, beans and fried tomatoes – and RED sauce, a study has found.

The poll of 2,000 adults has unveiled the ideal plate of food for a full breakfast, with fried bread and black pudding also considered essentials.

But settling the age-old sauce argument, ketchup was the most popular condiment, with 42 per cent saying this is a key ingredient in a cooked breakfast, compared to just 34 per cent who go for brown sauce.

It also emerged the average Brit tucks into an English breakfast twice a month – and more often at home than in a café.

Francesca Woodward from High Street TV, who created the QuadraPan, said: “It’s great that our results show how much people love tucking into a classic English breakfast.

“And we were also pleased to see that people prefer to make them at home, rather than heading out to a café or restaurant.

“This way, people can be sure of exactly what quality of ingredients and equipment is being used to make breakfast just the way they like it.”

The Full English is most often enjoyed on the weekend, with two thirds tucking in on a Saturday or Sunday morning – with Tuesday the least popular day.

Toast was twice as popular as fried bread as an accompaniment while grilled tomatoes were preferred to fried – although one in four prefer theirs without tomatoes at all.

Fried eggs were the most popular choice, with a whopping 72 per cent of the vote – leaving scrambled behind on only 27 per cent.

Over a third of the nation has been subjected to a horrible fry-up, with one describing their fried eggs in a hotel as “snotty.”

And another recalled a piece of fried bread so saturated with grease that it squirted out when prodded with a fork.

Nine out of 10 Brits reckon that a full English is part of the nation’s culture and heritage, and 54 per cent wish they had them more regularly.

One of the top reasons for not eating more cooked breakfasts are that it’s too stressful to get the timings of each ingredient right during preparation.

Francesca Woodward added: “The results of our survey showed us two things. Firstly, people are seriously opinionated about how their breakfasts are prepared.

“Secondly, that people wish there was an easier and healthier way to make a fry-up for themselves, which is where we come in.

“The QuadraPan, with its four separate cooking sections, means you can do the bulk of an English breakfast – eggs, sausages, bacon and beans – in one convenient pan, making the job much easier.

“Also, there’s no need to use any fat whatsoever as it has our unique Ceretech non-stick technology and so not only does it cut down on using lots of pans, it’s also the healthiest way to cook and goes straight from the hob or oven to the table top ready for everyone to get stuck in.”
