Christmas dinners in the UK

14th December 2016 Print

We like to be a bit lavish with our spending at Christmas, and nothing sums that up more than the meal itself: turkey, pork or even duck or salmon, with roast potatoes, vegetables and all the trimmings.

However, even though that’s a fairly consistent structure of a dish, the individual elements and the cost can diversify quite considerably, and we have the evidence to prove it. The infographic below, based on research compiled by AO.com, shows what we want on our dish, what we need, and how much we’re willing to pay for it.

The UK average is £179, but we pay anywhere from £137.70 in the North East right up to £220.20 in London -  a difference of £82.50 for essentially the same set of food. Wine is our favourite drink, but some of us are still traditionalists and like a splash of eggnog. Take a look at the infographic below for a snapshot of our Christmas spending habits – there may be a few surprises.
