Cooper’s second A1GP season ends at Brands Hatch

A1GP’s global debut was held with a massive fanfare at the Kent track in September 2005, attracting some 80,000 spectators, the biggest crowd at the ex-Grand Prix venue since its last Formula 1 World Championship race in 1986.
A unique concept, with national teams fighting for a ‘World Cup of Motorsport’, A1GP’s appeal centred around the emphasis on action and overtaking, rather than the processional nature of modern F1.
A1 Team Germany has already sealed the title but, with victories in each of the last two rounds, A1 Team GBR will be coming into its home round on the crest of a wave, and is sure to have huge partisan support at the UK round.
Back in ’05, the atmosphere was electric as the British team, led by motor racing legend John Surtees, took the lead in the feature race. With a home win on the cards again, this year’s event is sure to be just as exciting.
Cooper Tires has been the sole supplier of rubber to the A1GP series since it started. Earlier this year, the championship topped an enormous 250,000km of race distance on the bespoke racing tyres, and Cooper will continue to supply the series on an exclusive basis in its third season, which starts later this year.
Tickets to the race event at Brands Hatch on April 29 are available by calling 0870 950 9000 or logging on to brandshatch.co.uk. Tickets for raceday cost £30 in advance or £35 on the gate.
