Citroen introduces new ready to run relay glass carrier

The Relay 1800 2.2HDi, 3.5 tonne gvw, lwb, hi-roof glass carrying van boasts a unique and comprehensive specification, while the patented Supertrucks glass conversion fully complies with all relevant European regulations. It is also the only UK manufactured glass carrying rack with internationally recognised German TUV and GS engineering and safety certification.
Robert Handyside, Citroen’s commercial vehicle operations manager explains, “We are delighted to expand the Ready to Run range with the Relay glass carrying conversion. This new model has been developed by the UK’s largest manufacturer of glass carrying equipment and it will allow Citroen to compete in another large sector of the lcv market with a high quality, very competitively priced, custom-engineered van.”
Available from any UK Citroen dealer, the Relay conversion incorporates an external anodised aluminium glass/window carrying rack on the off side, which includes a facia panel for sign-writing. The 3,305mm long x 2,540mm high external rack is fitted without drilling the Relay’s body side panels. Also fitted is a full length, full width roof rack, which includes Supertrucks’ newly introduced front wind deflector and a nylon roller at the rear to aid loading ladders.
To secure glass or window frames to the external side rack, three Supertrucks’ System 1 securing poles are supplied. These allow sheets of glass or window frames to be rapidly and safely secured to the rack. Also, to avoid scuff marks on white finish pvcu window frames, the side carrying rack is equipped with light grey rather than black rubber cushion sections.
Internally the conversion includes a ply lined floor, a bulkhead and two, side wall mounted glass carrying racks with felted battens and securing poles. Internal storage shelves are provided between the back of the racks and the Relay’s body side walls.
The new Ready to Run Relay glass carrying van also includes a number of significant safety features, including:-
- an inclinometer, to give an immediate indication of the angle of the rack and thus whether it is safe to load/unload the vehicle
- new rubber base blocks, incorporating side reflectors, to provide better in-transit load protection and improve vehicle visibility/safety
- reflective white safety markers, to effectively define the rack edges front and rear in poor visibility
- pole rest, to provide convenient, safe storage for securing poles during load handling
- test certificate, issued with every rack to show maximum safe working load.
The new Ready to Run Relay glass carrying conversion is carried out at Supertrucks’ factory in St Helens, Merseyside. Supertrucks provides a UK-wide repair and parts support service for its products through a network of specialist partners.
