Scottish SPCA moves to Citroen

The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Scottish SPCA), Scotland’s leading and longest established animal welfare organisation, has just taken delivery of 19 Citroën Berlingo Enterprise vans and four Citroën Berlingo Multispace Forte mini-MPVs.

Edinburgh-headquartered Scottish SPCA selected the Berlingo vans and Berlingo Multispace MPVs after a careful evaluation of a number of other vehicles. John Allan, the Scottish SPCA’s finance manager, explains, “As a charity the Scottish SPCA is duty-bound to achieve the best value for money and Citroën provided this. We are also committed to reducing emissions, so we are delighted that these new Citroen are extremely fuel efficient and can run on up to 30 per cent bio diesel without any adjustments.”

All of the Scottish SPCA’s new Citroen are specially finished in black and have been supplied by Citroën Glasgow in conjunction with M&D Vehicle Management Ltd. They are being operated on Appleyard, three year, up to 105,000 mile, with maintenance contract hire agreements.

The Berlingo Enterprise 1.6HDi 75hp vans are allocated to the Scottish SPCA’s uniformed inspectors and ambulance drivers, and have a comprehensive specification that includes air conditioning, washable interior linings, half bulkheads and animal cages. The Scottish SPCA’s Berlingo Multispace Forte 1.6HDi 90hp mini-MPVs are being used by its Education Department, which provides a fully integrated programme in schools and works with the wider community to encourage positive and informed attitudes towards animals.

Established in 1839 the Scottish SPCA responds to over 100,000 calls for help every year, provides advice and guidance to animal carers, advocates improved animal husbandry systems and rescues animals in distress. Last year the Scottish SPCA’s 11 animal welfare centres offered refuge to, cared for and rehomed over 12,000 injured, abused or neglected animals.
