The world of digital marketing is fast growing, and ever-changing.  No matter how knowledgeable you think you are on the subject, there is definitely always more room for learning more to make sure you are keeping up with your competitors. 2018 is set to see even more digital marketing trends, so we have put together some ideas as to how you can keep your head above water and up to speed.  Don’t get left behind by not doing your research.

These are becoming increasingly popular these days, due to the evolution and growth of the digital world.  Who better to train you than digital marketing experts themselves? Digital marketing courses can give you the basic skills that you need to get your brand seen in an online world that is becoming more and more crowded.  There are lots of options out there, but it’s always a good idea to look at the curriculum to see exactly what you would learn, the time you would need to invest, and the reputation of the company.  You can get agencies that will come out to your office, or else offer courses at their premises where you can get appropriate training. You also get to learn “on the job” by working on real client projects, which really is what you need  to learn in this space.

There are lots of websites out there that are designed to provide you with digital marketing updates.  Search Engine Journal for example is fantastic for letting you know about updates to Google, as well as giving you info on handy tips to make sure that you are applying the correct tactics to your own website.  They have social channels, a website as well as a newsletter that you can subscribe to, so you don’t miss anything.  There are others that are equally helpful such as Search Engine Land, and Moz.  This may be more for people who already have a base knowledge and are looking to brush up on skills and simply be kept up to date. 

Tune in to Influencer Marketers

As well as digital marketing, influencer marketing is something that’s becoming increasingly prolific – and there are lots of digital marketing experts out there making their mark.  You will find the likes of Neil Patel, who not only will update you on digital marketing trends on his website and social media channels – but he also hosts webinars, that works like an online course.  You can listen to snippets of tips and advice from experts in the industry.  It isn’t the same as taking a full blown course, but it gives you some good pieces of advice that you can use as part of your overall strategy.  There is much more where that came from.

Look Online for Inspiration 

There is lots of content out there that will give you updates and information of companies who did their marketing campaigns well and generated great results.  Looking at these type of case studies will give you an idea as to what could work for your brand if it’s in the similar industry.  You can also research some pitfalls, and mistakes that others have made so you don’t make the same ones.  Make sure real-life case studies are one of your first ports of call when doing your research for some inspiration.  

Join Digital Marketing Related Groups 

You will find on Facebook and LinkedIn that there are some great groups that you can join that relate to digital marketing. This won’t only allow you to be kept up to date with the latest trends, it will give you the chance to catch up with like-minded people who also have the same interest.  It tends to work on a forum type approach, so you can see conversations that are being posted and respond.  It also means that you can ask questions if you need any help anything and enjoy a community like atmosphere.  You will also often find that they post helpful links with webinars etc and other shared resources allowing you to tap into other channels.  

There are lots of ways to keep up with the latest digital marketing trends which is essential in the business world these days particularly if you are just starting out. If you aren’t making your presence known online and keeping up with competitors – your company or brand can get lost in the crowd.  Use the resources available to you and this won’t happen.
