Citroen’s innovative C4 has beaten both the Ford Focus and VW Golf to be voted Best Diesel Hatchback by the leading specialist magazine, Diesel Car. This is the C4’s latest major award, coming soon after it was voted Britain’s Best Hatchback by Top Gear Magazine and British Car of the Year by Auto Express readers.

With its distinctive style, the Citroen C4 offers a broad choice of coupe and hatchback diesel models, giving the possibility of better than 60 mpg economy or sub 10 second 0-60 mph performance. Helping the company car buyer, CO2 emissions from as low as 125g/km are amongst the best in the class.

Whilst impressed by the performance of the engines, Diesel Car judges also emphasised the innovative nature and striking styling of the Citroen C4 as deciding factors in the award, “Funky looks and plenty of useful technology, plus one of the best common-rail diesels to be found in a small family hatchback” enthused judge and contributor, Sue Baker. “Zut alors – an exciting innovative hatch with quirky good looks which is also roomy, well equipped and good value…ah, that’ll be a Citroen then” added fellow panel member, Simon Heptinstall.

Diesel Car were also impressed by the Citroen C4’s specification, citing the speed limiter as being a particularly useful innovation; the clarity of the easy read electronic instrument display in all driving conditions, and the fixed centre steering wheel which makes access to the switchgear that much easier.

The Citroen C4 is available in 22 models and is currently available from under £10,000, thanks to Citroen’s current VAT Free offer. Diesel models are powered by a choice of technologically advanced common rail 1.6 or 2.0 litre engines.
