Renault Trucks offers a three-way choice at 3.5 tonnes

Renault Trucks offers a three-way choice at 3.5 tonnes Transport users in the market for a 3.5 tonnes gvw truck – now the heaviest that can be driven by new car driving licence holders – now have a choice of three utterly different models from their Renault Trucks dealer.

The newest option is the Maxity chassis-cab, a re-badged version of the Spanish-built Nissan Cabstar; RT marketing director Bruce Allison says the Japanese-designed forward-control Maxity is expected to appeal to small tradespeople, typically builders, who want a compact and manoeuvrable, but competitively-priced, light truck.

For more rugged operations, the established Mascott model is offered, not just at 3.5 tonnes but also at heavier gvws up to 6.5 tonnes, competing head-on with Iveco’s Daily range. Later this year the Mascott will become available, rather belatedly, in Euro 4 form, powered by a revised 3 litre Nissan diesel engine, now with EGR and developing slightly less power (down from 160 to 150hp) but with stronger torque. Also available at 3.5 tonnes is the front-wheel drive Master, a Renault car division product marketed by RT and through the Renault UK dealer network.
