Renault joins Choice Textile to help reduce its carbon footprint

5th October 2007 Print
Renault joins Choice Textile to help reduce its carbon footprint Textile recycling company, Choice Textile Ltd., has taken delivery of six Renault Midlum 220.10s, through the Renault Trucks Choice used vehicles programme. The vehicles, supplied through Renault Trucks London, are to replace the company’s existing Euro 2 Ivecos, as the company updates its fleet to Euro 3 Renault Midlums.

The trucks, which have box tail lifts, will be used to collect second hand clothing from charity shops across the South of England. The clothing is taken to be recycled at the company’s industrial warehouse in Park Royal, London. Choice Textile has chosen to upgrade from a 7.5 tonne fleet to a 10-tonne fleet, to enable larger loads of clothing and textiles to be transported in one lorry load, reducing the number of journeys required. The company estimates that this initiative alone will reduce its carbon footprint by 50%.

Aloysius Ihezie, Director, Choice Textile Ltd., says: “We are constantly updating our fleet to reassure our customers that their needs will be met. Obviously with an operation such as ours, where we work to reduce textile waste for the benefit of the environment, how our operation itself impacts the environment is a fundamental issue. Along with reducing the number of journeys we make, the Euro 3 Renault Midlums will provide better fuel consumption and require less maintenance. We are also confident in the service back-up received by Renault Trucks London who always provide that all important personal touch.”

Choice Textile Ltd collects over 8,000 tonnes of textiles every year from charity shops such as YMCA, Age Concern, Barnardo’s, FARA and many more local hospices re-using and recycling millions of garments per week that otherwise would have gone to landfill. Garments and shoes that are classed as wearable are packaged and shipped to less developed countries in Africa and South East Asia, whilst clothing that is not suitable to be worn again is sent to fibre reclamation plants for recycling. Choice Textile Ltd is an Associate Member of the Association of Charity Shops.
