F1 tourism hots up with ‘Hammy’

10th May 2007 Print
The Formula 1 tourism trade is hotting up thanks to the UK’s new racing superstar, Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton, nicknamed “Hammy”, made his F1 debut at the Australian Grand Prix in March this year, finishing third, then went on to become the first ever F1 driver to secure a podium finish in each of his first three World Championship Grands Prix.

With such an exciting start to the season, Hammy now has fans queuing up to see him in action again.

Diane Simons of operator, Grandstand Motor Sports, said that there was a definite “Hamilton effect” starting to emerge.

"The instant success of Lewis Hamilton in his McLaren-Mercedes this season has fired the imagination of F1 fans everywhere and already bookings are up by 20 per cent compared to this time last year. We're all enjoying not only seeing the young newcomer on the podium at every race but also the effect on the rest of the field who are having to step up their game to get in the points.

“On Sunday 13 May the European season gets underway in Barcelona and it's a packed house. Tours for all the races are filling fast with hotels and the best grandstands selling out in all destinations. The buzz is back in F1 and it's good to be part of it. There's no substitute for being there!”

Coming up in the racing calendar, are: Monaco 27 May; Silverstone 8 July; Monza 9 September; Spa-Francorchamps 16 September - all of which are great races at great race circuits. After Belgium F1 travels to Japan, China and finally Brazil on 21 October where F1 is a passion and there's no better place for a showdown.

Grandstand Motor Sports was set up by Titan Travel in 2005 as a new brand that would offer spectator packages to motor sports events around the world.
