Team RAC set sights on first season win

Team RAC set sights on first season win Team RAC are heading to the fourth round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Croft on Sunday 3rd June full of confidence that they can secure a first race win in 2007.

As well as an improved car, there are good omens for Colin Turkington, who secured two podium finishes for Team RAC in last year’s corresponding fixture.

Team RAC currently lie fourth in the Team Championship, with Turkington in fifth place (44 points) of the Drivers Championship, and Tom Onslow-Cole in ninth with 34 points.

Team RAC's Colin Turkington and Tom Onslow-Cole tested at Pembrey in Wales on Monday and posted positive results. Dick Bennetts, WSR Team Principal, commented: “Testing went very well and we were able to make some good progress. We've been at a bit of a disadvantage compared to our rivals recently, as they are familiar with their cars whilst we have had a great deal to learn about getting the BMW to work on the control
Dunlop tyre.

"Both Colin and Tom have done a great job so far getting to know the rear-wheel drive, so I'm confident that a Team RAC car will record a first win of the season very soon.”

Colin Turkington added: “Thruxton was frustrating for me as although I got an Independents win and made some great starts but we struggled on the special tyre. However Croft is a great circuit with a combination of fast straights and slow corners - it's somewhere I always seem to go well. After a couple of weeks off I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel.”

Tom Onslow-Cole, who recently celebrated his twentieth birthday, commented: “I had two wins at Croft last year in the Clio Cup and it’s always been a circuit that suits my driving style. I’m going into this round feeling very confident and have set my sights on a debut race win for Team RAC.”

RAC will be continuing their ‘RAC to the rescue’ campaign at Croft, which provides benefits to enhance the race day experience of fans at every round of the championship.

Tying into RAC’s latest advertising campaign, which features Vinnie Jones and Lennox Lewis, the activity will see RAC launching Father’s Day themed competitions offering unique race day experiences that will provide perfect presents for motorsport-mad dads.

Alastair Pegg, RAC director of marketing, said: “Colin and Tom have made a solid start to the season and the team is making real progress behind the scenes. Their dedication and skill is an inspiration to everyone at RAC.

"RAC have many exciting initiatives planned for the seven remaining rounds in 2007 so supporters should log onto teamrac.co.uk, look out in the media and at the rounds themselves during the season for details of our activity and how they can take part."
