Cover up in your convertible
Car dealers up and down the country will see convertible car buyers rushing to showrooms this bank holiday weekend with long summer days in mind.evecars.com, eve magazine’s motoring website for women is backing the Cancer Research UK’s Sun Smart campaign – the UK’s national skin cancer prevention campaign - by urging drivers of convertibles to protect themselves and their passengers from the sun’s rays.
Alex Jenner-Fust evecars.com editor warns convertible drivers to take a few minutes to think about sun safety before taking down their roof. “There's no doubt that the sun on the face, wind in the hair experience is exhilarating, but it can be damaging, too. It's important that drivers and passengers alike remember to apply a high protection sun cream (at least factor 15), pop on good quality sunglasses and either a scarf or hat before driving off. That way you'll avoid sun damage and the dishevelled look – think Audrey Hepburn rather than Bridget Jones”.
Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK. There are over 75,000 new cases of skin cancer registered each year and the number of cases is continuing to rise.
Rebecca Russell, Cancer Research UK’s Sun Smart campaign manager said “We are delighted that evecars.com is encouraging readers to enjoy the sun safely in their convertible cars this summer. It’s important to realise that it can take as little as 10 minutes for skin to burn in the midday summer sun.”.
The UK is the second largest market for convertibles, just behind Germany in Europe. Sales of convertibles in the UK have almost quadrupled in the last ten-years.
