Bosch continues Formula Student sponsorship

Bosch has announced its continued sponsorship of the 2007 Formula Student competition which, this year, takes place at the home of the British Grand Prix, Silverstone, between Thursday 12th - Sunday 15th July 2007. This will be the third year that Bosch has sponsored the event as it continues to strengthen the relationship with Europe’s largest automotive engineering challenge, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and supported by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Promoting engineering excellence amongst students, the Formula Student competition challenges universities across the world to design, build, market and ultimately compete as a team with a small single seat racing car. It aims to give students a taste of the ‘real life‘ industry challenges they can expect to encounter upon graduation.

Bosch is committed to supporting the aims of such competitions, which seek to invest in the future development of tomorrow’s engineers. Commenting on Bosch’s involvement, Communications Manager, Jenny Hodge, explained; “Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of our involvement with the Formula Student programme is that we are helping to provide students with practical, hands-on engineering experience in a competitive environment – outside the classroom – which will be invaluable to each of them as they look to develop their careers in the future.”

Formula Student is run by the IMechE, the global voice for mechanical engineering, which supports a vast range of engineering education initiatives across schools and universities. It has more than 75,000 members in 120 countries and represents mechanical engineers involved in a diversity of fields such as the automotive, rail, aerospace, medical, power and construction industries to name a few. The Formula Student event usually forms part of the students’ academic studies, and culminates in a competition where teams from all over the world come together to race and compete against each other. Restrictions are placed on the car frame and engine, ensuring the students’ knowledge, creativity and imagination are severely tested. Formula Student is backed by the Government-supported Learning Grid initiative (learninggrid.co.uk) which recognises the project’s outstanding contribution to engineering education and the promotion of engineering careers to young people.
