You don’t have to switch to be rich!

Stay with British Gas and save money at the same time, says Fool.co.uk.

The energy regulator, Ofgem, reckons that customers who have never changed gas or electricity supplier could save £150 by switching to the best deal. According to Ofgem, 4 million households switched and saved in the first ten months of 2006.

High switching rates have effectively pushed the market share of some former regional and national monopoly suppliers below 50%. Ofgem said British Gas’ market share of the household gas market stood at 48% in October.

However, Fool.co.uk has discovered that you don’t necessarily have to switch away from British Gas to get richer. We have unearthed two well-buried tariffs that could help you save money. They are the Green Click Energy Paperless Billing Tariff andthe Click Energy Paperless Billing Tariff. Furthermore, unlike other energy providers, British Gas will allow existing customers to switch to one of their cheaper tariffs.

David Kuo, Head of Personal Finance at Fool.co.uk, says: “Loyalty can be a wonderful attribute to have, but not if you are being charged too much for being faithful.

“However, thanks to our energy-comparison partner, Xelector, we have found a couple of ways for millions of households to stay with British Gas and save money at the same time.”

David adds: “It is quite extraordinary that British Gas would want to keep their gems hidden away from the public. The energy provider will probably not thank us for bringing the cheaper tariffs to the attention of its customers. But consumers need to consider all the options and deserve honest price comparisons in order to make informed choices.”
