As British Gas price cut day arrives

12th March 2007 Print
Geoff Slaughter, Energy Product Manager at uSwitch.com says: “British Gas customers will be delighted that the price cuts announced on February 8th will now be kicking-in. For the first time in 6 years, British Gas should be applauded for finally taking the fight back to the market. By opening up the price war it has stirred up competition and helped shake up the market in an effort to attract new customers.

“However, customers should not be fooled by expensive marketing campaigns, with suppliers telling them who’s cheapest. They should let the facts and figures speak for themselves. British Gas is clearly being more generous to its online customers than to the vast majority of customers who are still on its Standard tariff. There is gulf between the £953 a Standard tariff customer could be paying and the £755 an online customer will pay.

“The message to British Gas customers is clear. If you like being on a Standard tariff then there are three other providers who will give you a better deal – with two more still to decrease their prices. If you are happy to move to an online tariff then now is a great time to shop around, as all suppliers are offering their best deals online. Any way you look at it the time to switch is now.”
