moneysupermarket.com: launch of British Gas New Energy
In response to today’s launch of British Gas New Energy, Paul Schofield, head of utilities at moneysupermarket.com, said: “Any move from the UK’s largest energy supplier to boost awareness of eco-friendly options is welcome and clearly reflects increasing customer concern for the environment. However, there are very few genuinely ‘green’ energy tariffs or dedicated suppliers on the market, and pure green electricity currently costs around 25% more than a standard tariff.“We would like to see the big six suppliers focus on reducing the cost of green electricity, so households have a more cost-effective alternative to their traditional energy source. This, alongside concerted efforts to make homes more energy efficient, would enable customers to significantly reduce the carbon footprint caused by their energy consumption. We will watch with interest to see what products and services British Gas New Energy comes up with and how they stack up from a financial as well as an environmental point of view.”
moneysupermarket.com is making a stand to help people ditch their expensive power companies and get the cheapest energy deal by offering £30 cash-back to all customers swapping to a dual fuel tariff through its service. Those not going for a dual fuel tariff but changing a provider or tariff will benefit from a single £17.50 payment.
