moneysupermarket.com: British Gas price cuts

26th April 2007 Print
Commenting on British Gas announcing further cuts to gas and electricity prices, Paul Schofield, head of utilities at price comparison website moneysupermarket.com, said: “A second price cut in as many months by the UK’s largest energy provider has to be commended. This type of aggressive action gives a clear signal to the rest of the market that British Gas is intent on offering competitive pricing.

“We’re still waiting for Scottish Power and EDF Energy – who are the most expensive providers in the market for 'Standard' gas and dual fuel – to announce their first cut since wholesale gas prices fell last year. No doubt British Gas’s move will apply more pressure.

“With energy suppliers continuing to undercut each other at every turn, I doubt this will be the last we hear from the big six providers. More cuts in the market will mean greater competition and reduced bills for the consumer.

”British Gas's online Click Energy 2 product is already the cheapest tariff on the market at £755.34, based on average consumption dual fuel customers (20,500kwh Gas and 3,300kwh Electric) paying by Monthly Direct Debit."
