uSwitch.com responds to Centrica’s trading update

Tim Wolfenden, Senior Product Manager at independent comparison and switching service uSwitch.com, responds to today’s update from Centrica that it is continuing to trade strongly: “Today’s announcement is another positive sign that the turmoil of high wholesale prices and low supplier margins is well and truly in the past.

“Of greater concern is the fact that amongst the continued talk of improved profits, consumers are still not seeing the full benefit of the reduction in wholesale gas prices reflected in their bills.

“Both British Gas and its competitors need to front up to customers and be honest about what they anticipate delivering in terms of further price cuts. Consumers are being left to guess ‘higher’ or ‘lower’ while the suppliers keep pragmatically quiet.”
