Scottish Power's new green energy product

6th July 2007 Print
Commenting on the launch of Scottish Power’s new green energy product, Paul Schofield, head of utilities at price comparison site moneysupermarket.com, said: “It is good to see an energy supplier raising the bar and boosting awareness of eco-friendly options. Scottish Power’s new Online Energy Saver 4 Green Fund is the cheapest green product on the market. Based on average energy consumption, monthly direct debit customers on a dual fuel tariff would pay an average of £780, an annual saving of £95 compared with Powergen’s Go Green product.

”For each customer, Scottish Power will donate £10.50 per year to the ‘Green Energy Fund’, helping support renewable energy projects in the UK. However, those looking to maximise a donation could opt for the cheapest online dual fuel tariff – British Gas's Click Energy 3 at an average of £755 a year – and give the difference to a green charity.

“We would like to see the big six suppliers focus on reducing the cost of green energy, so households have a more cost-effective alternative to their traditional energy source. This, alongside concerted efforts to make homes more energy efficient, would enable customers to significantly reduce the carbon footprint caused by their consumption.”
