Scottish Power's new green energy product
Commenting on the launch of Scottish Power’s new green energy product, Paul Schofield, head of utilities at price comparison site moneysupermarket.com, said: “It is good to see an energy supplier raising the bar and boosting awareness of eco-friendly options. Scottish Power’s new Online Energy Saver 4 Green Fund is the cheapest green product on the market. Based on average energy consumption, monthly direct debit customers on a dual fuel tariff would pay an average of £780, an annual saving of £95 compared with Powergen’s Go Green product.”For each customer, Scottish Power will donate £10.50 per year to the ‘Green Energy Fund’, helping support renewable energy projects in the UK. However, those looking to maximise a donation could opt for the cheapest online dual fuel tariff – British Gas's Click Energy 3 at an average of £755 a year – and give the difference to a green charity.
“We would like to see the big six suppliers focus on reducing the cost of green energy, so households have a more cost-effective alternative to their traditional energy source. This, alongside concerted efforts to make homes more energy efficient, would enable customers to significantly reduce the carbon footprint caused by their consumption.”
