moneysupermarket.com: 1.25bn profits for Centrica
£1.25 billion profits for Centrica – Scott Byrom, utilities expert at price comparison website, moneysupermarket.com, said: “Centrica bounces back in the first half of 2007 after struggling with losses of £143m this time last year.“Since energy prices fell early this year, British Gas has ensured it offers customers the cheapest products around and is still leading the way with its ‘Click Energy 3’ online offering.
“As well as acquiring new business, the profits have been greatly helped by lower wholesale gas costs. A factor I hope will ensure energy prices continue to fall.
“It is important for all existing British Gas customers to ensure they are on the best deal. Those customers languishing on the standard tariff have been left behind, paying an average £82 more than those on the new ‘Click Energy 3’ tariff. This applies to all customers with any of the UK’s leading providers.
“Customers are reminded that switching is easy and there are savings to be made.”
