moneysupermarket.com: npower's new SOL 9 tariff

17th December 2007 Print
Commenting on npower's new SOL 9 tariff, Scott Byrom, utilities expert at price comparison site moneysupermarket.com, said: “High users of electricity will be disappointed with the introduction of npower’s SOL 9.

"For those lucky enough to already be on npower SOL 8, prices are remaining the same, but any heavy users looking to swap will now need to look elsewhere. Scottish & Southern's Price Fix 2008 and British Gas Click Energy 4 now lead the way for higher users. The Scottish & Southern proposition is potentially the most tempting, with its rates fixed until November.

"The npower increase isn't a surprise, but the size and timing of it is. A high user signing up to SOL 9 would now pay an average of £1,248 per year – over 21 per cent or £220 more than SOL 8 users are enjoying.

"With wholesale gas prices increasing, British Gas recently hiked the price of its Market Tracker tariff, now npower has and other products could follow suit."
