British Gas increases the price of its cheapest tariff
Commenting on British Gas increasing the price of its cheapest tariff by £138 for a medium user, Scott Byrom, utilities manager at price comparison site moneysupermarket.com, said: "For British Gas to increase the price of its Click Energy 4 product for existing users by 18.6 per cent is extremely disappointing."In contrast, E.On's excellent decision this week not to increase the price of its cheapest tariff will pay handsome dividends over the coming months.
"E.On now has the cheapest product in every region in Britain apart from Eastern England and the East Midlands, where Atlantic leads the way.
"There is nothing like price rises to start focusing people's minds – and now people will be focusing on E.On and Atlantic.
"At an average of £880 for medium users of gas and electricity, British Gas's new Click Energy 5 tariff is £116 more than the new kings of the market."
