Partnership brings used car status checks to the Republic of Ireland

26th June 2007 Print
For the first time, used car buyers and motor dealers in the Republic of Ireland will be able to enjoy the same peace of mind that their counterparts in the UK have been enjoying for years, thanks to a partnership between Experian, the global information solutions company, and the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).

SIMI, the official voice of the motor industry in Ireland, has joined forces with Experian to enable dealers to check the status of a used car before buying it.

Seen as a symbol of reassurance for consumers in the Republic of Ireland, SIMI plays an important role in encouraging its dealer members to operate to high standards of business ethics and integrity. As part of this commitment, SIMI has been working with Experian to develop the country’s first vehicle status checking service – SIMI Car History Check.

Cyril McHugh, Chief Executive of SIMI, said; “For the first time, dealers in the Republic of Ireland will be able to give their customers greater reassurance when they buy a used car.

“The service has already gained a great deal of attention in the motor industry here and hundreds of dealers have signed up to it. They have recognised that there is a need for a service like this as it will provide greater protection not only for their customers, but also for themselves.

“SIMI’s decision to work with Experian is based on the success of its Car Data Check solution – an essential tool that has been used by the motor industry in the UK for years. Now dealers in the Republic of Ireland will also be able to gain the most accurate picture possible of the car’s history and protect themselves and their customers from becoming victims to vehicle fraudsters.”
