British Gas launches Click Energy 6

30th September 2008 Print
Commenting on the launch of British Gas Click Energy 6, Scott Byrom, utilities manager at moneysupermarket.com said: "The new tariff remains the best deal in the energy market but, as with all online products, customers will see bills burst through the £1000 barrier with average bills of £1056 a year. However, hidden behind the launch of a new market-leading product lies a blow for existing Click Energy 5 customers who will immediately see a 35 per cent increase to their tariff meaning bills of £1150 - that's over £300 a year more than they will have budgeted for.

"For bill payers who recently moved onto the Click Energy 5 deal, it would be worth contacting British Gas to see whether they can be moved to the newer version of the tariff and instantly reduce their energy bill by just under £100 a year.

"This move has been a long-time coming. The ‘wait and see' approach has certainly worked for British Gas as it still holds the crown for the most competitive offering on the market. It will be interesting to see how the other leading providers react as this could spark providers to jostle for the top spot.

"I advise anyone languishing on a standard tariff to move on to the best deal now to avoid wasting hard earned cash, especially in the current economic climate. For bill payers seeking security in their outgoings, fixed tariffs remain an attractive option. Scottish Power's Fixed Price Energy 2009 is cheaper than most standard tariffs, but of course more expensive than online offerings."
