Keep energy bills ‘real' not ‘guess-timated'
Scott Byrom, utilities manager at moneysupermarket.com, advises on the best way to manage your energy bills to keep payments accurate and keep you out of debt with your energy provider."The easiest and most efficient way to track the cost of your energy bill is to move to a tariff with an online account. Also known as "paperless billing", these online services enable you to monitor your bills and keep everything in check.
"An online account puts you back in charge of your bill by providing the option to give an accurate meter reading directly to your provider. An actual meter reading is quick and easy to do and by removing ‘guess-timation' you are less likely to over pay and be out of pocket, or on the flip side, under pay and become in debt to your provider.
"I would urge anyone who is unhappy with the cost of their bills to move to an online tariff with paperless billing and reap the rewards of being on the cheapest deal available. The average saving by moving from a standard tariff to an online tariff is nearly £150.
"It's true that the impact of last year's unprecedented price hikes is hitting wallets hard at the moment so it's crucial to take action immediately to cut costs where ever possible. There are definitely savings to be had by taking ownership of your bills and staying savvy to the best deals on the market."
