Switch to a better energy tariff, says Confused.com
With the onset of the hot weather signalling the start of summer, switching energy provider is likely to be the last thing on anyone's mind, as we assume the expensive months are over. But with so many tariffs available, the change in energy consumption that the summer can bring, can mean big savings if consumers switch provider or tariff.Although the central heating can be switched off, summer appliances such as fans or air conditioning, electric gardening tools and the all important beer fridge in the shed, all use power. Plus with the kids home for the holidays, the television and games console is likely to be on far more.1 So don't let the summer madness take over before searching for a cheaper tariff.
Gareth Kloet, head of utilities at Confused.com says "Just because summer is here doesn't mean that consumers can ignore who supplies their energy and what tariff they are on. Prices have now dropped, plus when energy consumption alters, different tariffs can be better than others, so even if you have switched recently, it could still make sense to switch again"
"It's quick and simple to do" he adds "and by switching regularly you'll get a clear and accurate understanding of your own consumption, which may help you to save even more in the future.
"In addition, take advantage of the good weather to reduce energy consumption elsewhere, so hang the washing on the line rather than using the tumble dryer and get into the loft to lay the insulation - it'll keep your home cooler in the summer as well as warmer in the winter."
