Monthly direct debit offers huge benefits

15th September 2009 Print
People are throwing money away by paying their energy bills with cash and cheque (CAC), says Confused.com. And with new entrants such as First: Utility continuing the energy price war - online tariffs have now reached their lowest price so far in 2009.

Gareth Kloet, Head of Utilities at Confused.com says "First:Utility introduced a new online tariff last week (iSave) to become the cheapest energy supplier in the market. For a standard consumer on a dual fuel tariff the annual cost would be just £967, if paid for by monthly direct debit. Challengers like First:Utility are excellent news for money savvy customers eager to bag the best value. Customers should vote with their feet against high energy costs and force the big six to review their prices".

Kloet adds "One of the simplest ways to save money is to set up a direct debit, otherwise you could be paying up to 15% a year more than necessary. And for those customers who would like to save even more, they could turn their back on the big six entirely, and instead choose a smaller provider.

"Shopping around to find the best tariff from the best provider is vital. By simply switching to an online tariff with your current provider you could save over £300 a year - but this could be even more if you spend a few minutes searching for the best tariff for your circumstances via a Consumer Focus accredited comparison site such as Confused.com"
