It’s win, win, win for garages, motorists and UK factories

It’s win, win, win for garages, motorists and UK factories More franchised car dealerships and garages are fitting recycled parts keeping British factories in business. And motorists are saving as much as 65% by fitting a remanufactured product compared to buying a brand new part claims a recent report.

The UK now boasts some of the best vehicle parts remanufacturing plants in the world with staff providing technical support to a worldwide customer base. Many of these remanufacturing businesses are regulated under the European Quality Standards agency. Safety critical components are remanufactured back to their original equipment specification at a fraction of the cost of buying a new part.

Mail order specialist, Car Parts Direct supplies one of the largest ranges of remanufactured car parts in the UK. Their sales of remanufactured products have risen by more than 30% in the last 12 months. A large part of the growth is claimed to be due to UK franchised dealers fitting more remanufactured product. Car Parts Direct sources product from eight UK remanufacturing factories employing a combined workforce of over 2,000 staff in the UK.

Mark Cornwall of Car Parts Direct said “The franchised dealers normally make contact because a product is not available from the dealer network or the dealer supplied part is just so expensive the customer will go elsewhere. Offering a remanufactured part saves the sale for the garage and helps them keep their customer.”

Fitting a used drive shaft, steering rack or brake calliper is not recommended as rubber seals rot, bearings and moving parts corrode which could easily result in a serious accident.

Mark Cornwall of Car Parts Direct said, “A brand new outright purchase of a steering rack or a drive shaft on some modern vehicles can cost as much as a £1,000 from the dealers. We supply a replacement part delivered to any franchised dealer, garage or even the motorist’s home, normally within 48 hours. Our customers can save around 65%, depending on the product. The vehicle owner may order the part themselves and ask the garage to fit or the motorist may choose to fit their own replacement part.”

Stock availability is claimed be in excess of 92% from Car Parts Direct. If a part is not available a fast remanufacture and return service is offered to the customer. An old part can be collected, remanufactured and returned back to the customer within four working days. This service costs £20, plus the cost of the part – the emergency service is provided on all exchange products.
