BVRLA announces formation of leasing broker committee

13th August 2007 Print
The BVRLA has announced the formation of a committee to deal exclusively with issues affecting the leasing broker sector. Composed of representatives drawn from its Leasing Broker Membership the Committee has been given a wide ranging brief to cover all issues that may affect the sector concentrating on quality standards, industry influence, services and lobbying government.

One of the first decisions of the Committee has been to change the name of its sector of BVRLA Membership. “We recognised that Intermediary Member, while it describes what we do, was not sufficiently well recognised in the fleet industry and so we decided to use the more widely accepted term of Leasing Broker,” says Graham Prince of Neva Consultants and the new Committee chairman. “The word broker used to have a doubtful perception but there is a rapidly increasing number of highly professional organisations providing their clients with safe and reliable services backed up by their membership of the BVRLA. In order to become a Member, Leasing Brokers have to undergo a stiff quality assurance inspection. It’s not simply a matter of paying your fees and you’re in!.”

“Leasing brokers who have joined the BVRLA are those companies who place quality, integrity and value for their customers above all. It’s what differentiates them from the rest of the leasing broker market. And of course, it’s about providing added value services - quality services that customers can rely on and trust.

Prince continued, “And we’re working towards improving standards still further. We’re in the process of reviewing the Leasing Broker Member’s Code of Conduct, with a particular emphasis on quality standards. And that’s a mandatory Code, of course. Only by using a BVRLA Leasing Broker Member can customers be assured of the best possible service backed by the authority of the industry’s trade association.

“But we’re also going to be very active in other areas, as well. We’re working towards protecting and improving competitiveness, as well as identifying and spreading best practice throughout the sector. As far as government is concerned we’ll be ensuring that our voice is heard and our concerns are not only noted but are taken into account before legislation is enacted that may affect us. Information and a quality service are key to success in this sector and we’ll be ensuring that BVRLA Leasing Broker Members are at the forefront in the marketplace, fully up to speed with the latest information and all the better able to serve their clients.”
