Comma launches its Classic masterpieces

Comma launches its Classic masterpieces Car care specialist, Comma, has launched a new range of oils engineered to help maintain the quarter of a million classic cars on the road in the UK.

Comma’s Classic Engine Oil range will comprise a Classic 30, Classic 40 and Classic 20w50 attractively packaged in 5-litre 1950s-style tin.

With the country’s classic motors estimated to be worth at least £2.5bn, the specially formulated lubricants are ideal for cars built in the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s.

Modern engine oil is generally too thin in viscosity for classic cars, and the additives used in modern lubricants can corrode materials used in older head gaskets, such as leather, cork and felt.

In addition, detergent additives in modern oil can cause a lack of compression in classic engines and, although contemporary oil offers better protection in cold weather, most classic vehicles are driven in spring and summer, with over 70% of historic vehicles travelling less than 900 miles per year.

Classic 30 has been developed for winter motoring, a thinner viscosity helping the oil flow easily through colder engines, while Classic 40 is designed for summer, a thicker consistency aiding high-temperature performance.

While Classic 30 and 40 are monograde oils for four-stroke machines, Classic 20w50 is a multigrade oil for use all year round.
