Art Deco-style period car showroom at Goodwood Revival

Art Deco-style period car showroom at Goodwood Revival The Goodwood Revival, being held at the picturesque West Sussex motor circuit from 31 August to 2 September, will this year include a significant new attraction in the form of a sensational Art Deco-style period car showroom, with a matching petrol pump and kiosk.

Located within the infield of the Goodwood circuit, this architectural treat will replace the hugely popular Revival ‘Period Garage,’ which will be retained but moved to the other side of the track for 2007 as a fully-functioning workshop. The key new Revival attraction will be known as the Shell ‘Woad Corner’ showroom, with the Goodwood installation being the first to showcase several planned developments across Europe designed to recreate the glamour and romance of motoring in the 1950s and ‘60s.

The Goodwood-based showroom has been designed and built by the creative team at Model Tec, a local Bognor-Regis-based automotive concept design manufacturer. The ambitious structure has been built with strong support from its first tenants, The Magic of Motoring, a Buckinghamshire-based firm responsible for promoting the long and rich heritage of the Shell oil company.

The Woad Corner showroom takes its name from a famous Shell site in Newport Pagnell, the location of the oil company’s first British motorway service station, built to serve the then newly open M1 in the early 1960s.

The Art Deco style of the Woad Corner showroom reflects the landmark architectural genre of the 1930s, which typified many car sales showrooms and petrol stations of the period, such as the iconic Thomson & Taylor garage in Surrey, the legendary Alfa Romeo distributors for Britain. The Revival Woad Corner showroom will incorporate many of the features contemporary in the 1930s, including Crittall wrap-around windows and black and white tiled floors.

Window shoppers will need deep pockets if they wish to acquire the contents of the showroom, as the Goodwood site will be filled with a mouth-watering multi million dollar display of road-going and race-ready Ferrari models from the 1950s and ‘60s, including a legendary 250 TestaRossa, 250 GTO and 250 GT Lusso. Accompanying these stunning machines will be an impressive line-up of other Ferrari models from the period, as well a 1967-season Ferrari 312 F1 car, generously supplied by Paul Osborn of Cars International. Today Shell is the official fuel provider to the current Ferrari F1 team, and with Ferrari celebrating its 60th anniversary, the pairing is a natural fit for the Woad Corner showroom.

Revival visitors with champagne tastes but beer incomes will be able to satisfy their shopping desires by visiting the Magic of Motoring kiosk at the end of the showroom, where a variety of period-style Shell merchandise will be available.

Entry to the Goodwood Revival is strictly by advance ticket only.
