UCB Home Loans launches green booklet for customers
As part of its programme of activity on environmental issues, UCB Home Loans, Nationwide’s specialist intermediary lender, is launching a booklet for its’ customers which outlines ways in which they can take steps to reduce the size of their carbon footprints. The booklet is available primarily to download in pdf format from UCB Home Loans website at ucbhomeloans.co.uk, with a further small supply of printed copies (printed on recycled paper) available for those who are unable to download it.
With only two months before Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) become compulsory for all homes going up for sale, the booklet is designed to help householders take the small steps that will contribute to the UK’s target to reduce CO2 emissions by 60 per cent by 2050.
Current figures indicate that the UK’s 21 million homes are responsible for around 27 per cent of the country’s CO2 emissions.
Entitled ‘You and Your Carbon Footprint’, the booklet contains information on insulation and environmental issues within the home, as well as advice on reducing energy consumption, water usage, recycling, transport and alternative sources of energy.
UCB Home Loans managing director, Keith Astill, said: “The booklet is designed to help people take small steps that, collectively, can make a big difference to the environment. With EPCs becoming compulsory this summer, this is obviously an increasingly important area for homeowners.
“The recent draft Climate Change Bill proposed a gradual process leading to 60 per cent emissions reductions by 2050, and this places a big responsibility on both industry and householders to take action,” he said.
“Millions of small steps at home can have a huge impact in reducing CO2 emissions. People don’t have to drastically change their lives by never getting on a plane again,” he said.
